Take a Bite Out of PETA

Here's why: (from 7 Things You Didn't Know about PETA)

1) PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as “total animal liberation.” This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals.

2) Despite its constant moralizing about the “unethical” treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, PETA has killed over 14,400 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2005, PETA put to death over 90 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public.

3) PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified “domestic terrorist” group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that “blowing stuff up and smashing windows” is “a great way to bring about animal liberation.”

4) PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents. One piece of kid-targeted PETA literature tells small children: “Your Mommy Kills Animals!” PETA brags that its messages reach over 2 million children every year, including thousands reached by e-mail without the permission of their parents. One PETA vice president told the Fox News Channel’s audience: “Our campaigns are always geared towards children, and they always will be.”

5) PETA has used a related organization, the PETA Foundation, to fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information. PCRM's president also serves as president of the PETA Foundation.

6) PETA runs campaigns seemingly calculated to offend religious believers. One entire PETA website is devoted to the claim-despite ample evidence to the contrary-that Jesus Christ was a vegetarian. PETA holds protests at houses of worship, even suing one church that tried to protect its members from Sunday-morning harassment. Its billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs “died for their sins.” PETA insists, contrary to centuries of rabbinical teaching, that the Jewish ritual of kosher slaughter shouldn't be allowed. And its infamous “Holocaust on Your Plate” campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals.

7) PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.”

I think this is hilarious. Call someone ignorant but misspell "ignorant"? The level of intelligence among people opposing foie gras is demonstrated as low by this example.

This fake persona "Lizzie Vonhurst" certainly manages to get alot of "research" done in her spare time as a busy "East Coast College student". Who do you work for? Berman & Company or National Animal Interest Alliance? NAIA has been circulating a "Petition to President Bush" to have PETA's 501 (3) status removed, since 2001! Here's why... The NAIA shills for industries like foie gras, meat, dairy, fur, vivisection, rodeo, hunting, trapping and dog breeders (particularly the American Kennel Club)under a 501 (3) "Charity" or tax exempt status.. They are particularly virulently anti-PETA since some of their "associates", including former board member Joan Berosini (wife of the infamous Oragutan beater Bobbi Berosini) have been investigated and sued by PETA. (In 1989, after "Entertainment Tonight" aired a secretly made video that showed Berosini beating his orangutans night after night about the head, neck and shoulders; a lawsuit was filed by PETA. Numerous affidavits were filed in support; including one by world-renowned primate scientist Jane Goodall). http://www.emorylies.com/Berosini.htm. Both PETA and HSUS advocate spay/nueter and breeding restrictions, aggressively opposed by the NAIA and its close associate the American Kennel Club (the AKC rakes in an excess of 30 million a year from registries from puppy mills.) Patti Strand is the National Director and co-founder of the NAIA, as well as a board member of the AKC since 1995. She is particularly anti-PETA and even wrote a (rather paranoid) book about "animal rights extremists", comparing them to Nazi's, etc... She opposes everything from spay/nueter to the Puppy Protection Act, which she helped to kill in 2002. This "welfare advocate" promotes cosmetics testing, pound seizure, steel hold leg traps and horse slaughter or "horse processing for horses who no longer meet the needs of their owners!" Naturally, she would have very little problem with force feeding ducks and geese.

The NAIA (usually Patti Strand) frequently cites the Center for Consumer Freedom as a "reference" as "proof" of "terrorists" activities (otherwise known as freedom of speech, etc). CCF is of course one of several attack websites set up by Berman & Company, which also operates under a fraudulent 501 (3) "tax exempt" status. Contributors to this corporate lobby include: Armour-Swift, Bestfoods, Max & Erma's, Applebee's, Custom Cuts, Ruby Tuesday, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Coca Cola, Marie Calendar, Outback Steakhouse, Sugar Foods, National Steak and Poultry, Tyson Foods, Wendy's, White Castle, Cracker Barrel, Hooters, International House of Pancakes, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Steak & Ale, TGI Friday's, Uno's Restaurants and Perdue Farms as well as many others. They attack attack PETA and MADD as well as other animal rights groups, health advocates, smoking advocates, living wage advocates, labor unions, environmentalists and anyone who opposes their clients, who remain comfortably in the background. They actively opposes smoking bans, lowering the legal blood-alchohol level and minimum wage increases. The IRS Form 990 which it filed for the 6 month period from July to December 1999 (under the name of Guest Choice Network) showed that almost all of it's financial support came from a handful of anonymous sources. It received no income from membership dues (Center for Media & Democracy).

The Journal of American Medicine reported in 1998 106,000 people a year die from adverse reactions to drugs tested on animals. Researchers from Harvard and Boston Universities concluded that medical measures (drugs and vaccines) accounted for between 1 and 3.5 % of the total decline in mortality rate since 1900. Scores of animals were killed in the quest to find cures for tuberculosis, scarlet fever, small pox and diptheria. Dr. Edward Kass of Harvard Medical School, asserts that the primary credit for the virtual eradication of these diseases must go to improvements in public health, sanitation and general standard of living.

After 30 years of fighting cancer with animal testing, cancer deaths are up; people with cancer live longer but more contract it. Many studies published in scientific journals have linked western diets to a host of diseases, including cancer. If animal testing funds were diverted to programs encouraging dietary change, we would finally see disease rates plummet - and by ethical means. Instead, governments support the inhumane factory farming industry, encouraging westerners to consume cheaply, far more meat than is healthy. They then support the animal testing industry to combat the diseases they encourage. Furthermore, all cow's milk (regular and organic) has 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol. Most cows’ milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics, blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. Of those 59 hormones one is a powerful (insulin like) growth hormone called Growth Factor ONE (IGF-1). By a freak of nature it is identical in cows and humans and considered to be a "fuel cell" for cancer growth (IGF-1 is a key factor in the rapid growth of breast, prostate and colon cancers). It is a likely supposition that it will eventually be found to promote all cancer growth. http://www.rense.com/general26/milk.htm

Today, synthetic Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH) is used to bring the average up to 50 pounds (over 6 gal) of milk per day. Monsanto Chemical Co. (creator of BGH (Posilac)) as well as DDT, agent orange and Round-up weed killer spent around half a billion dollars inventing a shot to force a cow to produce MORE milk (for an already glutted, taxpayer-subsidized market). Monsanto's Posilac creates additional IGF-1 in milk: up to 80% more. Furthermore, the FDA insists that IGF-1 is destroyed in the stomach. (If that were true, the FDA has proven that breast feeding cannot work.) Unfortunately, they created five errors in their Posilac (BGH) shot that direly affected all test animals... but that important report (Richard, Odaglia & Deslex, 1989) was hidden under Clinton's Trade Secrets act. The Canadians read enough of this report (before it was stolen) to reject BGH. http://www.rense.com/general26/milk.htm,

The March of Dimes is one of the most corrupt and self serving charities with only about 10% of donations actually going into programs. I am shocked that your extensive "research" did not reveal that the March of Dimes has been boycotted by churches and pro-life groups for years! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1394202/posts

PETA actually features religious literature on its sites, including literature from CVA or Christian Vegetarian Association. Bruce Friedrich serves on the governing board of the Catholic Vegetarian Society, the advisory board of the Christian Vegetarian Association, and is a founding member of the Society of Ethical and Religious Vegetarians.

I wish this were as "hilarious" as a misspelled word on a message board (which of course the central issue here). I find the level of malice this person displays towards animals, the environment and people to be anything but funny and quite disturbing.
